Adopted at the Symposium on the Recruitment of Children into the Armed Forces and on Demobilization and Social Reintegration of Child Soldiers in Africa.

The Cape Town Principles resulted from an international convention of NGOs for the rights of the child, together with Unicef, in April 1997. The Principles address prevention rather than post-conflict remedies or reparations. However the document is among those cited by the International Criminal Court as having provided it with guidance in establishing its own Principles on Reparation. Of potential relevance for the implementation of this right is the section on ‘Reintegration into Family and Community Life’ at p.8-11, which recommends a number of rehabilitation programs of the sort that could theoretically be financed by collective reparation payments.
