2013 | HRW Report – Somalia: Deeply Flawed Rape Inquiry

This brief report documents the progress of a patently inadequate investigation into alleged sexual violence crimes in Somalia in 2013. It provides a telling example of how, even where a certain political will has been demonstrated, failures of policy development and coordination, coupled with a climate of impunity not susceptible of rapid change can lead the victim into to a web of difficulties from which there is almost no escape. It shows that considerable courage is needed for victims of sexual crimes to come forward.
