Peter van der Auweraert works as Head of the Land, Property and Reparations Division at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Geneva, Switzerland. He has worked on rule of law, post-crisis land and victims’ reparations issues in, amongst other countries, Bosnia, Burundi, Colombia, Haiti, Iraq, Serbia, Timor-Leste, Turkey and Zimbabwe and was part of a small UN-team engaged in mediation on land and property issues amongst local political actors in Kirkuk, Iraq. Prior to joining IOM, Peter Van der Auweraert was Executive Director of Avocats Sans Frontières (ASF), an international NGO working on access to justice issues in post-conflict and transitional countries in Africa, the Middle East and South-East Asia. He is currently a member of their Board of Directors. From 1999-2006, Peter Van der Auweraert held a Visiting Lectureship in International Criminal and Public Law at the University of Turku in Finland. He earned an LLM in International Law from the University of London (United Kingdom) and a first degree in law from the University of Antwerp (Belgium).  Peter Van der Auweraert has published widely on reparations, forced migration and post-crisis land and property issues.
